The Port d’Informació Científica (PIC) is within the top international Computer Data Center focusing on the massive storage, process and data computing, grid applications and integration of medical and computational imaging in biomedicine. PIC brings together solid and creative methods translating them into meaningful and useful resources, tools, architectures and system prototypes. Additionally, PIC's scientific production contains landmark contributions and pretends visibility in the international scientific community.
Our center is intrinsically interdisciplinary and international, deeply valuing diversity yet loyal to its vision. PIC members commit to deliver to the highest standards of rigor and excellence. Its internal hi-tech and intellectual atmospheres are ideal contexts for supporting ambitious, motivated, and visionary scientists and technologists, and serve as a launching pad for technological innovation.
The PIC is organized into five Areas (see the image below; the staff profiles can be consulted by clicking in : Administration , Infrastructures , Services , LHC , Projects Area , Fellowship Collaborations , and Former Members ) in charge of the deployment of technical application-driven, operational and administrative challenges and also the distributions of their reports and results among the rest of the Sections. Each section is under the direction of a Section Leader or Coordinator who acts as a proxy for the Director for the daily running of the Section and is responsible of working together with the Director to define the middle and long term strategy for the center.
Dissertations, PhD or MSc theses’ co-supervisions also occur in the Center. The supervised students are ultimately reporting to the Director (full professor at UAB) and, where applicable, are also work under the guidance of and report to the coordinator acting as a daily proxy of the director. The development of teams of PhD students and post-doc co supervisors sharing common methodological challenges within Section is encouraged and is part of the internal organization of the PIC: cross-section teams have been created to match this objective.
